- LONG TERM IMPACTS -
The Great Society had a lasting impact on the United States in many ways. Loans, food stamps, and Medicare led to the impact of an improved economy and welfare. Another long-term impact was an increase in environmental health. Johnson had signed the Water Quality Act (1965) and Wilderness Protection Act (1964), which helped keep our water clean and wilderness safe. Many of the programs enacted and the bills passed are still in action today, still changing the lives of many.
