- SHORT TERM IMPACTS -
The Great Society had many impacts on the United States, some of which were short-lived. The economy initially rose due to more people joining the labor force because of the programs created, but due to a lack of foundation, the labor force once again decreased a while after. This decrease in the labor force had a correlating decrease in the United States' economy. Additionally, a larger divide was created between those in the Left and Right. Funding for this program would come out of taxes, and with the Vietnam War going on, they were higher than ever. Many believed that President Johnson should either focus on reform or the war. Focusing on both would result in neither one being particularly successful.
